Pets of the Week for December 21, 2024

The holiday season often brings feelings of hope and joy, and this year, FAAS (Feline and Animal Adoption Society) experienced a true Christmas miracle with the adoption of Buster Brown, a beloved dog who had been in their care for a year and a half. After a heartfelt campaign titled “Get Buster Brown a Forever Home for the Holidays,” his story captured the hearts of many. A local couple discovered his story through social media and fell in love with him, leading to a beautiful new chapter in his life. His inspiring journey is detailed in FAAS’s new blog, Tails of the Island, titled “Dreams Really Do Come True.”

Today, in the spirit of Buster Brown’s success, we are excited to feature two remarkable dogs who are also in search of their forever homes: Carter and Redvine. These two lovable pooches have been residents at FAAS for quite some time, and we hope that sharing their stories will help them find the loving families they deserve.

Meet Carter

First up is Carter, a 3-year-old beagle mix with a zest for life. If you appreciate the charm of beagles but seek a taller companion, Carter may just be the perfect match for you. According to FAAS Animal Care Director Amanda McNair, Carter is known for his intelligence and affectionate nature. “He’s so smart, really great, and staff and volunteers love him,” she shares.

Carter’s energetic personality makes him an ideal candidate for an active household. Whether you're hiking, jogging, or just enjoying the outdoors, Carter will enthusiastically join you every step of the way. He thrives on exercise and enjoys roughhousing with his canine friends. Once he gets his energy out, he switches gears and becomes a laid-back companion who loves to lounge on cool grass or a cozy dog bed, soaking in the presence of his new family.

For those without young children—Carter’s boundless energy might be a bit overwhelming for little ones—he could become your unshakeable best friend. And if you have toys like balls lying around, you’ll win him over in a heartbeat! Carter’s playful nature makes him easy to shop for this holiday season—every ball you gift him will surely make his tail wag with joy.

Introducing Redvine

Carter’s fellow shelter resident, Redvine, is another star waiting for his chance to shine. At 5 years old, Redvine is a charming and sociable dog who has won over the hearts of FAAS staff and volunteers, including Amanda McNair. She describes him as “the perfect companion for a public outing! Very well-behaved in the car.” Redvine is not only calm and confident but also friendly to both humans and other dogs, making him a stellar candidate for belonging to an active household or a family that enjoys social outings.

Redvine has had the fortune of spending time in foster care, where his wonderful personality truly shone through. His foster family describes him as “a sweet, curious, smart little dude,” who can be both a cuddly couch potato and an adventurous running partner. Redvine is crate-trained, enjoys lap time, and keeps a watchful eye on his family, lovingly nicknamed the “little TSA agent.”

With a playful spirit, Redvine knows which toys are his and plays respectfully without chewing up household items. He is also well-trained in basic commands including sit, lay, stay, and no. While he can get excited around new people and may jump to greet them, FAAS encourages potential adopters to take advantage of their training program, which offers up to $200 in benefits, to help refine his manners.

Join the Holiday Spirit

If you're looking to add love and joy to your life this holiday season, come meet Carter and Redvine at the FAAS main shelter, located at 1590 Fortmann Way. The shelter is open for visits from Tuesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Keep in mind that they will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

By welcoming either Carter or Redvine into your home, you’re not only enriching your life but also giving a deserving dog a loving family they’ve been patiently waiting for. Help us give these precious pets the holiday miracle they deserve!
