Woman Dead, Man Missing in Tragic Incident at Surfside Beach

SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas – A day at the beach turned to tragedy this week, leaving a young woman dead and a man missing after they were pulled into the turbulent waters off the coast of Surfside Beach.

The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday that the body of a 25-year-old woman was recovered from the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday evening. The search continues for a 31-year-old man who was with her and remains missing.

According to authorities, the incident began to unfold around 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 19. A third friend who was with the pair placed a frantic 911 call, reporting that the man and woman were struggling in the water.

Emergency crews, including deputies from the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard, were dispatched to the scene. An intensive search was launched, utilizing boats and aerial assets.

Approximately 45 minutes into the search, the woman’s body was located and recovered from the water. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The search for the missing man continued until nightfall on Thursday and resumed at first light on Friday. Despite the exhaustive efforts of search and rescue teams, he has not been located. As of Friday evening, officials stated the operation has transitioned from a rescue to a recovery mission.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of these individuals during this incredibly difficult time,” the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “What was supposed to be an enjoyable day at the beach has ended in heartbreak.”

Authorities have not yet released the names of the woman who died or the missing man, pending notification of their families.

This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of coastal waters. Officials are urging beachgoers to be aware of surf conditions, heed any posted warnings, and swim near lifeguard-protected areas whenever possible. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
