East Quogue Woman Charged with DWI After Hit-and-Run, Police Say

EAST QUOGUE, N.Y. — A Hampton Bays woman is facing charges of driving while intoxicated after she allegedly struck another vehicle on Montauk Highway on Saturday night and fled the scene, according to Southampton Town Police.

Police said they arrested Jennifer R. Miller, 42, a short time after the crash.

The incident began at approximately 9:15 p.m. when a 911 call reported a hit-and-run crash on Montauk Highway near the intersection of Lewis Road in East Quogue. The caller, who was the driver of the vehicle that was struck, told police they had been hit from behind by a dark-colored SUV that did not stop.

The driver was able to provide a vehicle description and a partial license plate number to the dispatcher, officials said. While the driver reported no serious injuries, their vehicle sustained damage to its rear bumper.

According to a police press release, patrol officers began canvassing the surrounding area for the suspect vehicle. An officer on patrol located a vehicle matching the description with fresh front-end damage traveling westbound on Montauk Highway a few miles from the crash site.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Miller. Police said that upon interviewing her, the officer observed clear signs of intoxication.

Miller was administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene, which she failed, according to the report. She was subsequently arrested and transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters for processing.

Police said Miller was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage, a traffic infraction. She was also issued several other traffic summonses.

Miller was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court on Sunday morning.

The driver of the other vehicle declined medical attention at the scene, police confirmed. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
