Identity released of Ogden mother murdered in brutal knife attack

OGDEN, Utah – The community is in mourning after a beloved mother was brutally murdered in a knife attack in her own home last week. While authorities have taken her son into custody in connection with the horrific crime, the name of the 48-year-old victim has not yet been officially released pending notification of all family members.

The tragic incident unfolded on the afternoon of Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Washington Estates Manufactured Home Community in the 1400 block of north Washington Boulevard. According to the Ogden City Police Department, a frantic 911 call was received from a woman screaming, “He has a knife!” The dispatcher then heard the name “Alec” being shouted amidst other distressing sounds before the line fell silent.

Shortly thereafter, a second 911 call came in from a male who chillingly stated, “I think I killed my mom,” according to charging documents.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were confronted by 25-year-old Alec Conrad Martinez, the victim’s son, who was holding a bloody knife. After a tense standoff, Martinez eventually dropped the weapon and was taken into custody. Police say that during the arrest, Martinez attempted to grab an officer’s Taser.

The victim was discovered on the front porch of her residence with multiple severe lacerations to her neck and other areas of her body. Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene, and she was rushed to a local hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries.

“This is a deeply disturbing and tragic case,” said Ogden Police Chief Eric Young during a press briefing. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim during this incredibly difficult time. We are committed to ensuring that justice is served.”

Martinez has been charged with first-degree murder, disarming a police officer, and possession of a weapon by a restricted person. He is currently being held without bail at the Weber County Jail. His initial court appearance is scheduled for later this week.

Neighbors in the quiet mobile home park expressed their shock and sorrow over the incident. Many described the victim as a kind and friendly woman, making the news of her violent death all the more difficult to comprehend.

“She was always so sweet,” said one neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. “You just can’t imagine something like this happening right here. It’s heartbreaking.”

As the investigation continues, a community is left to grapple with the loss of a mother and the deeply unsettling circumstances of her death. Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
