Three suspects identified from Las Vegas police shooting
LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has identified three suspects in connection with a police shooting that occurred Sunday evening. The incident unfolded after officers responded to reports of a drive-by shooting in a neighborhood near North Buffalo Drive and West Craig Road.
The suspects have been named as Lazavion Payne, 19, Calvin Richards, 24, and Daiveon Stone, 29. All three have been taken into custody.
According to police reports, the situation escalated when officers located two vehicles believed to be involved in the earlier drive-by shooting. As police followed the vehicles, shots were reportedly fired from one of the suspect’s cars toward the patrol units.
In response to the threat, at least one officer discharged their weapon, striking two of the suspects. Both injured individuals were transported to a local hospital for treatment. One is reported to be in critical condition, while the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No police officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.
The events leading up to the officer-involved shooting began with a 911 call reporting a drive-by shooting in the residential area. As officers were investigating the initial report, they spotted the two vehicles that matched the description provided by witnesses. When they attempted to follow the vehicles, the occupants allegedly opened fire on the police.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is continuing its investigation into both the initial drive-by shooting and the subsequent officer-involved shooting. Further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
