23-year-old dies after single vehicle crash in Muhlenberg County
Greenville, KY – A 22-year-old Cromwell man was killed in a tragic single-vehicle crash in the early morning hours of Friday in Muhlenberg County. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department has identified the deceased as Tyler A. Caple.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Kentucky State Police (KSP), the accident occurred at approximately 4:37 a.m. on Highway 181, about one mile south of the Western Kentucky Parkway. KSP was requested by the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department to investigate the fatal two-vehicle collision.
Investigators report that Mr. Caple was operating a 2011 Buick Enclave and traveling southbound on Highway 181. For reasons still under investigation, it is believed that Mr. Caple may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing his vehicle to cross the center line and enter the northbound lane.
His vehicle then collided head-on with a 2014 Mazda Two, driven by 61-year-old Nevin P. Bard of Greenville.
Tragically, Mr. Bard was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Muhlenberg County Coroner. Mr. Caple was transported by emergency medical services to the Owensboro Health Muhlenberg County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing and is being led by an Accident Reconstructionist from the Kentucky State Police. Further details will be released as they become available.
