Man hit and killed by van in Waterford Township

Waterford Township, MI – A 69-year-old Waterford man was struck and killed by a van late Saturday night while attempting to cross a busy intersection. The incident occurred just after 10:30 p.m. at the corner of Cooley Lake Road and Hiller Road.

According to a press release from the Waterford Township Police Department, the man was crossing Cooley Lake Road against the traffic signal when he was hit by a 2001 Ford Econoline van. The van was driven by an 81-year-old man from neighboring White Lake Township.

Emergency services, including the Waterford Regional Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene. The injured pedestrian was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

The driver of the van remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Police have stated that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

The intersection was closed for several hours on Saturday night as police conducted their initial investigation. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Officer Miller of the Waterford Township Police Department at 248-618-6062.
