3 dead after overnight crash in Round Rock; one arrested
ROUND ROCK, Texas – Three people are dead and one driver is in custody following a violent two-vehicle crash that shut down a major intersection in Round Rock overnight, police confirmed Saturday morning.
The collision occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of University Boulevard and A.W. Grimes Boulevard. First responders arrived to a scene of catastrophic damage, with debris scattered across the roadway.
According to a preliminary statement from the Round Rock Police Department, a sedan carrying three individuals was struck by an SUV that allegedly ran a red light. All three occupants of the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, an adult male, was treated for minor injuries before being taken into custody. Police have not yet released his name, but confirmed he is facing multiple charges, including three counts of Intoxication Manslaughter.
“This is a devastating tragedy for our community,” said Round Rock Police Sgt. David Williams in a morning press briefing. “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims who received the most horrific news imaginable today. Our Crash Investigation Unit is working meticulously to ensure a thorough investigation.”
The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
The intersection remained closed for more than six hours as investigators processed the scene, took measurements, and cleared the wreckage. Traffic was diverted through neighborhood streets, causing minor backups for early-morning commuters. The roadway was fully reopened just before 9:00 a.m.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the events leading up to it to contact the Round Rock Police Department’s non-emergency line.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Further details are expected to be released as they become available.
