MT. ZION, IL — A 19-year-old female was struck and killed by a train in Mt. Zion on Thursday afternoon, according to local authorities. The incident occurred near the Baltimore Avenue crossing, where a bike trail runs adjacent to the tracks.

Officials report the young woman was riding her bicycle along the trail when she was hit by the passing train. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Following the incident, railroad crossings at Baltimore Avenue and Westside Avenue were temporarily closed to allow for an investigation. The Mt.
