1 killed in shooting in Locust Grove neighborhood

LOCUST GROVE, Ga. – A quiet Wednesday morning in the Bridle Creek subdivision was shattered by gunfire that left one man dead and a woman hospitalized. The Locust Grove Police Department has a suspect in custody following the incident, which they are describing as domestic in nature.

Police were dispatched to a residence on Weymouth Drive at approximately 8:40 a.m. following reports of a domestic disturbance and shots fired. According to officials, officers were met with gunfire from inside the home upon their arrival.

Law enforcement was able to de-escalate the situation and take a male suspect into custody. Upon entering the home, they discovered the body of another man. A woman was also found at the scene with undisclosed injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been released.

“When officers arrived, the suspect was firing rounds through the house,” stated Locust Grove Police Chief Derrick B. Austin. He confirmed that officers were able to convince the suspect to surrender.

The identities of the deceased victim, the injured woman, and the suspect have not been made public pending notification of next of kin and further investigation.

Neighbors in the ordinarily peaceful community were left shaken by the heavy police presence and the news of the violence. The area around the home was cordoned off for several hours as investigators processed the scene.
