One Dead, Another Wounded in Early Morning Winter Garden Shooting

WINTER GARDEN, Fla., June 25, 2025 – A man is dead and another is in stable condition after a shooting in the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday at a Winter Garden apartment complex, police officials said. The incident, which authorities are actively investigating, has left a community on edge and investigators seeking answers.

The deceased has been identified as Darius Towns, 24. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital where he and a second, yet-unnamed, male victim were transported following the gunfire.

According to the Winter Garden Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Westside Townhomes on Dolphin Drive at approximately 12:36 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered the two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Investigators say that two unidentified individuals approached the residence and fired multiple shots. Video evidence also revealed a third person fleeing from inside the home with property from the crime scene, though their direct involvement in the shooting remains unclear.

A strong odor of cannabis was detected by officers at the scene, where they also located several spent shell casings. Police have indicated that several witnesses who were present are currently not cooperating with the investigation, providing limited testimony.

“Our detectives are working tirelessly to piece together the events that led to this tragic loss of life,” said a spokesperson for the Winter Garden Police Department. “We urge anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. Your cooperation can be the key to bringing justice for the victims and their families.”

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, and no suspects have been taken into custody.
